This morning, we arrived in Paris on the night train, after a weird nights sleep. We shared our space with two students, one which woke this morning by falling out of their bed but landing on their feet. Quite impressive I can say so as a former bed hopper. The train cabin would have been great for building forts though. Next trip, I’m coming prepared.
I’ll update more on our time in Paris, but the present moment is more so of grief and disappointment. This evening while sitting down for dinner outside of the Eiffel Tower, we managed to find wifi. My ATM card was not allowing me to take out any funds, leaving me with no euros left. When I checked out my account, I noticed over $2,000 in unknown charges taking place in Rome after we had already left. My card is still in hand and I’ve only used it for ATMs so the only explainable possibility is that someone installed a card scanner at one of our stops. Bethany checked hers to reveal a similar trend, with the total amount exceeding $4,000. We rushed home to get wifi and potentially a Skype call but struggled with the access, so we are now in a local bar, sitting in the basement crunching numbers, making calls, and trying to figure it all out. Our cards are now cancelled, which means there will be no more output of euros for us. Bethany has a bit of cash, but my credit cards have not been too successful in Europe. I’ve got a bit of USD that I will transfer tomorrow to hold us off while here. We had EXCELLENT PNC service from a gentleman who never introduced himself. I think it could have been Jesus, as he was very kind and patient with us as the loud music, groups of people at the bar, and poor service kicked in.
All of this being said, it’s not looking too great for our French Open experience. We’ve gone from vacation mode to survivor mode. But thankfully, I know all about Bear Grylls. If you hear about a man walking around Paris with a headband made of dirty socks and an REI clothesline, don’t be surprised to see my face. Holler if you know any free things to do in Paris. 🙂
(I’m trying to be funny to keep a positive attitude) It’s all a part of #LTDdaily.Â
