It may almost be June, but all of us here in Ohio can proudly proclaim “It’s Summer!” after what felt like the longest winter ever. Summer traditionally brings a few things to the table:
- an over consumption of homemade lemonade, iced coffee, & chai
- grilling out more than cooking indoors
- long nights around the campfire
- baseball games and golf outings
- outdoors concerts as often as possible
- sand volleyball and softball games anywhere you find 6+ people
- music playing loudly anywhere and everywhere
Some of my life’s best memories are from the summer season. Our summer baseball team would always carpool to our early evening doubleheaders. The team would pack into a handful of cars and set out on the long and boring journeys with the windows open, and my built-in stereo system struggling to compete with customized amplifiers and subwoofers. There just wasn’t anything cool about driving in a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am. I remember spending hours trying to adjust my bass, treble, front + back settings on my car just trying to make the most out of what I had. But the best summer drives were the long ones with best friends. Seasonal music listeners like myself often find their “summer mix” or maybe just a “summer album”. I clearly remember listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers albums over 50 times in one summer. In college, I played Justin Timberlake’s “Future Sex/ Love Sounds” CD until it could barely spin. Other recognizable artists include John Mayer, Underoath, Copeland (evenings only), and Mae. I’ve had a different summer playlist every year since high school, and I am struggling to create the perfect mix for this season.
As the Summer of 2011 begins, I want to hear the summer mixes of music lovers from all over the world.
One Question: What are you listening too this summer? What can be heard booming from your stock stereo system as you drive? What waves are moving through your trendy white headphones while you ride your vintage bike downtown? What’s the best song to sip lemonade too?
