While touring across the country, one of my biggest challenges is to create space. It’s actually sort of crazy to think that I actually enjoy being on the road all of the time, because of my love for cool spaces. I’m talking about the types of places that make you feel something special, unlike anywhere else you’ve been. Back when I had a home, I would spend hours trying to create different personalities for the various rooms in the house. I had a reading room, a community room, as well as a space where very few people ever came around. A lot of my desires involve creating these types of spaces for other people, hosting the opportunity to challenge others to feel or do the same as I do when I step through those doors. And while I am unable to secure my own space in this season of life, I am welcomed into many others’ spaces through AirBNB homes, local coffeeshops, and college campuses all over the USA.
When I walk into baseball stadiums, I fill up with excitement like a child in a candy store, thinking about people and how many of us there are on this small earth. I imagine all of the cool possibilities that can come when we collaborate with strangers that become new friends. Often times, I end up at the stadium alone, not saying a word unless a stranger happens to stumble into my path over a handful of peanuts or a spilled soda.
When I find a coffeeshop, I get anxious to create. It’s difficult for me to sit down and read a book in a cafe; I’m usually wired from a few espressos or I’m sitting with my nose in a notebook trying to create an idea that could change my world; and maybe yours.
What were you made to do? And when you do figure out some answers to that question, where do you go to do more of that?
Figure that out.
