Confession: I’m a bit of a life romantic. I’m not saying I like to get cuddly with best friends or write haikus for my closest neighbors, but I certainly embrace the value of significant moments and the legacy that our lives can carry.I often try to coordinate cool life experiences with milestones or unique moments, enhancing both my story and the story of those around me. And one of my most consistent struggles has been the immense amount of photos that I take with my iPhone. They automatically import into a folder of over 4,500 photos….. and there they sit. Every so often, I’ll open up that folder and take a glimpse at the last few years of my life; the adventure that came with it and the many people that have made my story so great. But when my laptop closes, those photos gather e-dust and are often forgotten with technology upgrades and worn-down hard drives.
I’m a big advocate of Kickstarter- I spend a few minutes each week going through current projects in search for passionate entrepreneurs who are making great products or offering up services worth investing in. Philip Anema and Sean Pfitzenmaier– two guys out of Brooklyn and San Francisco- have come up with a wonderful solution to the photo backlog and lack of printed material. Meet Timshel.
Each month, subscribers can select up to 30 photos from their phone and upload them to the Timshel (pronounced time-shell) App. Within a few weeks, those photos will be printed on genuine photo paper and delivered to your front door in a sleek storage shell that can be used to display your photos. That’s right around one photo each day, with subscriptions as short as one month or as long as 12 months. One year will cost around $7.91 per month for the photos and delivery, which ends up less than your phone bill, your Netflix account, and 1.5 lattes. From experience, I realize these guys are probably taking a big hit up front, as shipping alone would range from $5-10 each month. The best thing about timshel, you receive something tangible that can be held on to, gifted to your friends, or used as meaningful artwork for your home or office.
This subscription service is both resourceful and challenging, providing easy access to printed photography that you’ve taken while reminding you to capture some of life’s greatest moments. The most frequent conflict I hear about mobile photography is that people are forgetting to enjoy the moment thanks to the time they spend behind their touchscreen trying to capture the perfect sunset to edit in Instagram before sending it to followers and friends. But these guys have created a platform where we can recollect, remember, and preserve our life experiences through the art of photography in a way that creates resourceful opportunity to capture and create.
I encourage you to share your story. If you find yourself capturing life’s greatest adventures and explorations through photos, I definitely hope you show some support to these guys. With your support, I certainly hope that by 2014 my coffee table will host a stack of 30 photos, each with their own short story to tell; all of which make up this life I’m navigating through each and every day. Support the dreams of passionate entrepreneurs. Challenge yourself each and every day to do the things that you were created to do. Share special moments with those you love, and open your heart to loving on someone you may not have even met yet. Live in abundance and explore often.
Live the Dream Daily.
